What if it rains?
Real plan B ideas for outdoor weddings
An outdoor wedding is a dream for many couples: the sound of the sea in the background, the gentle breeze, a golden sunset on the horizon… But there’s also that small (big) fear: what if it rains?
We know no one wants to think about that possibility, but part of enjoying your big day without stress is having a solid Plan B. A real Plan B, not an improvised solution or a last-minute tent. Here we share real and creative ideas so that rain doesn’t ruin a single second of your wedding, but instead becomes, even, part of its charm.
Discover in this “Hola” article how to turn rain into an ally and make your wedding an even more special moment.
1. A covered space that’s just as magical
If you already know you’re getting married outdoors (estate, beach, garden…), make sure from the start that the venue has a covered alternative you’ll also love. And here’s the key: that you’ll also love. There’s no point in having a Plan B that feels like punishment. Ask for photos, visit that space, picture it decorated. Can you light it with candles? Dress it with flowers? Create a cozy atmosphere with textiles and music?
Because yes: your wedding is still your wedding, even if it moves a few meters under a roof.
2. Stylish tents (with good planning)
Tents have evolved a lot. They’re no longer those cold, impersonal structures: there are options with transparent ceilings, romantic fabric drapes, or wooden frames that look like something out of a movie.
But here’s the thing: you can’t just book it two days before. If your wedding is between October and March, or in places with unpredictable weather like Tenerife, include the tent from the beginning. You may not use it, but if needed, you’ll feel at peace.
And remember: more than just protecting from the rain, a good tent creates atmosphere.
3. The lifesaver kit for guests
A beautiful and very practical gesture is to prepare a “rain kit” for your guests. White or transparent umbrellas (which also look stunning in photos), blankets if it gets chilly, dry hand wipes, and even rain boots for the boldest ones. Details that make everyone feel cared for… and that can also add a stylish touch.
Imagine a ceremony entrance with matching umbrellas or a fun group photo in the rain. Rain can become the unexpected star — but with style.
4. Flexible timing, but not improvised
A good wedding planner always allows for timing margins. Maybe the ceremony needs to be delayed 15 minutes or paused while a heavy cloud passes. Having a team that can make those decisions quickly and calmly changes your entire experience.
And here’s something important: if you’re calm, your guests will be too. Rain becomes a simple change of plans, not a drama.
5. What if rain is… part of the charm?
Some of the most emotional and unique weddings we’ve seen had rain. People dancing in the rain, brides with wet dresses (and smiling), bouquets soaking up water and smelling even more intense. There’s something deeply romantic about a wedding that carries on despite the rain. That doesn’t stop. That flows.
Because in the end, isn’t that what love is all about?
Having a Plan B doesn’t mean giving up — it means taking care of yourself. It means putting your peace of mind above perfectionism. And that, to us, is true luxury.
So if you’re dreaming of an outdoor wedding, dream big. And prepare big. Rain may come… or not. But you, no matter what, are going to enjoy every single second.
